Gonzales' Private Attorney Paid For By Taxpayers: Is He Worth It?
Another problem for Gonzales (thank you, God!).
(From Think Progress)
This summer, six attorneys “rejected from civil service positions at the Justice Department filed a lawsuit” against “former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and three other top officials for allegedly violating their rights by taking politics into consideration” in the hiring process for the Honors and Summer Law Intern Programs.Today, McClatchy reports that the Justice Department has agreed to pay for a private lawyer to defend Gonzales, which could cost taxpayers up to $24,000 a month: According to a person with knowledge of the case, the Justice Department has imposed a limit of $200 an hour or $24,000 a month on attorneys’ fees. Top Justice Department attorneys generally earn no more than $100 per hour. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case.
Just a thought.

Cheney and Gonzales Indicted on Abuse of Prisoners in TEXAS (of all places!)

OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG!
Praise Texas!
(From Think Progress.com)
A South Texas grand jury has returned multi-count indictments against Vice President Dick Cheney and former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales on charges related to the alleged abuse of prisoners in Willacy County’s federal detention centers:
The indictment accuses Cheney and Gonzales of engaging in organized criminal activity. It criticizes Cheney’s investment in the Vanguard Group, which holds interests in the private prison companies running the federal detention centers.
It accuses Cheney of a conflict of interest and “at least misdemeanor assaults” on detainees by working through the prison companies. Gonzales is accused of using his position while in office to stop an investigation into abuses at the federal detention centers.
Of course, you know they'll walk away from the indictment scott free! But Who Cares? It's a step in the right direction! It may open up indictments from other states. And from other countries!!
Could the next indictment be against someone whose last name begins with a "B"?
Oh PLEASE! Pretty please! Pretty Please with chocolate on it! Anything!
Karma, please don't stop it! Buddha, meditate on a continuum! Energizer Bunny! Just everything, everyone, keep going! Time is precious now. If anyone has anything on this vile administration, release it NOW!

Focus On The Family In Need Of Cash? Will Nancy Pelosi Bailout James Dobson?
The Mormons!
(Colorado Independent)
... reports that Focus on the Family “is poised to announce major layoffs to its Colorado Springs-based ministry and media empire today.” The layoffs come after the right-wing group spent more than $600,000 to defeat marriage equality in California. Praising the passage of Prop. 8, the group said that the measure “helps protect millions of children from radical indoctrination in the homosexual lifestyle.” The group also touted its involvement collecting signatures and gathering donations, patting itself on the back for being “integrally involved” in the fight against marriage equality.
Something's not right: a mere pittance of $600,000 is causing the non-denominational pseudo religious Focus on the Family to "major layoffs?" Gimme a break! This is an entity that has its own lobby in Washington, for chrissakes! Did its zealousness in denouncing gay marriage cost them more than $600,000? Does this building in Colorado Springs look like a corporation on the verge of bankruptcy? (Bad architecture is always a sign that your prayers and donations are safe) Although when I first saw the picture, it reminded me vaguely of the Disney character Goofy, it looks like a fairly healthy media empire and "ministry." FOF spends that much on one of its fundraising letters!Note to Senator Charles Grassley: keep a close eye on this one.
But then there's this piece of news from MinistryWatch, the organization that (among other things) rates the transparency of ministries:
Some observers interpret Dr. Dobson’s reduced role (he recently resigned as president) as a sign that FOF is preparing for his eventual departure. With donations already taking a slight downturn (FOF has recently made reductions in its operating expenses leading to staff layoffs and program cutbacks), many people are concerned about the long-term future of FOF.
Financial Ratios Database Average 2006 2005 2004 2003 Fundraising Cost Ratio 6% 7% 8% 8% NA Contributions Reliance 83% 91% 91% 93% NA Spending Ratio 97% 103% 107% 97% NA Program Output Ratio 78% 87% 90% 80% NA Degree of L-T Investment 3.36 4.43x 5.35x 6.43x NA Current Asset Turnover 4.88 6.82x 8.12x 7.96x NA
Of course, FOF's shenanigans have been almost as ridiculous as Pat Robertson's 700 Club:
Focus on the Family Action pulled a video from its Web site today that asked people to pray for "rain of biblical proportions" during Barack Obama's Aug. 28 appearance at Invesco Field at Mile High to accept the Democratic nomination for president.
Stuart Shepard, director of digital media at Focus Action, the political arm of Focus on the Family, said the video he wrote and starred in was meant to be "mildly humorous."
Bankrupting the corrupt churches and hate groups. I know, it's wishful thinking. Thinking back, however, when Christianity came into power, all of the pagan temples were turned into churches - or brothels. Both sound businesses and guaranteed money-makers. So if Focus on the Family DOES fail, we have some options concerning its real estate!
Just a thought!

Anti Gay Marriage Leads to Racial Hate Crimes
The Traditional Values Coalition - headed by the extremely homophobic Rev. Lou Sheldon - is considered the mother of all homophobic hate groups in the country (by watchdog Southern Poverty Law Center). Founded in 1980, the "Coalition" purports to represent 43,000 churches in the U.S. Lately, however, it has gotten waaay too far on the right with issues of immigration and anything it considers "Socialist" or "Anti-Christian."
In a 2005 posting on the TVC website, Sheldon wrote:
A dangerous Marxist/Leftist/Homosexual/Islamic (Sheldon covers ALL the bases) coalition has formed – and we’d better be willing to fight it with everything in our power. These people are playing for keeps. Their hero, Mao Tse Tung is estimated to have murdered upwards of 60 million people during his reign of terror in China. Do we think we can escape such persecution if we refuse to fight for what is right?
Soon after this episode, the Southern Poverty Law Center decided to list the TVC as a hate group. (Wikipedia)
Sheldon worked with Abramoff to lobby members of the US Congress to kill the Internet Gambling Prohibition Act. Abramoff directed his client, eLottery, to direct $25,000 in payments to Sheldon's Traditional Values Coalition.

Now notice how the current article slams President-elect Barack Obama about undoing some of those "squeakers" of B**h deregulation noted several days ago:
President Obama To Use Executive Orders To Bypass Congress And American People

November 13, 2008 – When Barack Obama takes the oath of office in January, 2009, he will begin using Executive Orders to undo many of the Bush policies that protect life, national security, and other pro-family concerns. Read More...
Is it any wonder that the rhetoric of Traditional Values Coalition would cause hate crimes? They're getting to be inclusive haters. If there is any conspiracy going on, I would say that James Dobson and Lou Sheldon are part of it. Even though Sheldon now has "The Mark of Abramoff" on him, the TVC is this a viable operation for Dobson's purposes.
Obama election spurs race crimes around country

From California to Maine, police have documented a range of alleged crimes, from vandalism and vague threats to at least one physical attack. Insults and taunts have been delivered by adults, college students and second-graders.
Grant Griffin, a 46-year-old white Georgia native, expressed similar sentiments:
James Dobson. Lou Sheldon. Traditional Values Coalition. Anti-Gay Marriage. Anti-Socialist. Anti-Hispanic. Anti-African American."I believe our nation is ruined and has been for several decades and the election of Obama is merely the culmination of the change.
"If you had real change it would involve all the members of (Obama's) church being deported," he said.
Connect the dots.
Just a thought.

Thank God For A Day Of Wonderful, Peaceful Protests

They protested in 5 countries, all fifty states and over 300 cities. Protests ranged from the small (100) to the large (30,000). The important thing: they were mostly peaceful. Up until this time (6:00PM PT) there have been no arrests, no violence, and no desecration of buildings.
We should thank God - in our own, individual way.
And after the passing of Proposition 8 in California, these protests prove that the issue of marriage equality is not going away. The hate-mongers have had their day. It's time for love to take it's rightful place in humanity.
Of course, the hate-mongers, Christofascists and their minions will not simply go away either. "News" and donation letters from organizations like Family Research Council are still preparing for an all out war.
From Tony Perkins and the FRC:
Yes, The Family Research Council and other institutions like it want to see heads roll. They want blood. They've smelled too much of it to even think about anything else....Therefore, FRC is launching a plan to help expose our liberal leaders' radicalism to America even as we short-circuit their agenda in Washington.
Knowing an Obama victory was possible, FRC crafted this plan in advance....So make no mistake, this can be our movement's "finest hour."
Help Launch "Our Finest Hour": The FRC Plan to Reverse the Threat to Our Values and Freedom. The plan includes:
- Building a Capitol Hill Firewall by supplying conservative and genuinely centrist members of Congress with facts and answers.
- Building a Supreme Court Firewall by laying the groundwork ...to reject any radical judicial activist nominees.
- Building a National Firestorm of facts through a media strategy that will expose the extremism of leaders in the White House and Congress.
Just a thought.

And Gay Marriage Will Cause Tornadoes in Tahiti, Bubonic Plague in New Jersey, a Culinary Craving for Infants, and ...
O.K., some of you wouldn't mind New Jersey getting Bubonic Plague, you get the gist. People like Bill O'Reilly grasp at anything evil-sounding to associate with gay marriage.
O’REILLY:
So you can see the debate over gay marriage is now a full fledge national battle. As talking points said last night the election of Barack Obama has emboldened secular progressives who feel it is their time. Gay marriage just the beginning. Other cultural war issues will also be in display very shortly. These include limiting gun possession, legalizing narcotics, unrestricted abortion and the revocation of the Patriot Act.
It [feminism] is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians. Then again, O'Reilly doesn't seem quite as squirrelly.
