Anti Gay Marriage Leads to Racial Hate Crimes

Hate Begets Hate: How Homophobic Rhetoric Can Lead To Racism and Hate Crimes

The Traditional Values Coalition - headed by the extremely homophobic Rev. Lou Sheldon - is considered the mother of all homophobic hate groups in the country (by watchdog Southern Poverty Law Center). Founded in 1980, the "Coalition" purports to represent 43,000 churches in the U.S. Lately, however, it has gotten waaay too far on the right with issues of immigration and anything it considers "Socialist" or "Anti-Christian."

In a 2005 posting on the TVC website, Sheldon wrote:

A dangerous Marxist/Leftist/Homosexual/Islamic (Sheldon covers ALL the bases) coalition has formed – and we’d better be willing to fight it with everything in our power. These people are playing for keeps. Their hero, Mao Tse Tung is estimated to have murdered upwards of 60 million people during his reign of terror in China. Do we think we can escape such persecution if we refuse to fight for what is right?

Soon after this episode, the Southern Poverty Law Center decided to list the TVC as a hate group. (Wikipedia)

And evidently, convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff was a "Traditional Values" kind of guy:
Sheldon worked with Abramoff to lobby members of the US Congress to kill the Internet Gambling Prohibition Act. Abramoff directed his client, eLottery, to direct $25,000 in payments to Sheldon's Traditional Values Coalition.
Here's part of the header for The Traditional Values Coalition - notice the sub-heading "Empowering People of Faith through Knowledge"

Empowering People of Faith
through Knowledge

Now notice how the current article slams President-elect Barack Obama about undoing some of those "squeakers" of B**h deregulation noted several days ago:

President Obama To Use Executive Orders To Bypass Congress And American People

November 13, 2008When Barack Obama takes the oath of office in January, 2009, he will begin using Executive Orders to undo many of the Bush policies that protect life, national security, and other pro-family concerns. Read More...

Is it any wonder that the rhetoric of Traditional Values Coalition would cause hate crimes? They're getting to be inclusive haters. If there is any conspiracy going on, I would say that James Dobson and Lou Sheldon are part of it. Even though Sheldon now has "The Mark of Abramoff" on him, the TVC is this a viable operation for Dobson's purposes.

Obama election spurs race crimes around country

From California to Maine, police have documented a range of alleged crimes, from vandalism and vague threats to at least one physical attack. Insults and taunts have been delivered by adults, college students and second-graders.

Grant Griffin, a 46-year-old white Georgia native, expressed similar sentiments:

"I believe our nation is ruined and has been for several decades and the election of Obama is merely the culmination of the change.

"If you had real change it would involve all the members of (Obama's) church being deported," he said.

James Dobson. Lou Sheldon. Traditional Values Coalition. Anti-Gay Marriage. Anti-Socialist. Anti-Hispanic. Anti-African American.

Connect the dots.

Just a thought.

Thank God For A Day Of Wonderful, Peaceful Protests

They protested in 5 countries, all fifty states and over 300 cities. Protests ranged from the small (100) to the large (30,000). The important thing: they were mostly peaceful. Up until this time (6:00PM PT) there have been no arrests, no violence, and no desecration of buildings.

We should thank God - in our own, individual way.

And after the passing of Proposition 8 in California, these protests prove that the issue of marriage equality is not going away. The hate-mongers have had their day. It's time for love to take it's rightful place in humanity.

Of course, the hate-mongers, Christofascists and their minions will not simply go away either. "News" and donation letters from organizations like Family Research Council are still preparing for an all out war.

From Tony Perkins and the FRC:

...Therefore, FRC is launching a plan to help expose our liberal leaders' radicalism to America even as we short-circuit their agenda in Washington.

Knowing an Obama victory was possible, FRC crafted this plan in advance....So make no mistake, this can be our movement's "finest hour."

Help Launch "Our Finest Hour": The FRC Plan to Reverse the Threat to Our Values and Freedom. The plan includes:

  • Building a Capitol Hill Firewall by supplying conservative and genuinely centrist members of Congress with facts and answers.
  • Building a Supreme Court Firewall by laying the groundwork ...to reject any radical judicial activist nominees.
  • Building a National Firestorm of facts through a media strategy that will expose the extremism of leaders in the White House and Congress.
Yes, The Family Research Council and other institutions like it want to see heads roll. They want blood. They've smelled too much of it to even think about anything else.

Just a thought.

And Gay Marriage Will Cause Tornadoes in Tahiti, Bubonic Plague in New Jersey, a Culinary Craving for Infants, and ...

Bill O'Reilly To Become Gay!

O.K., some of you wouldn't mind New Jersey getting Bubonic Plague, you get the gist. People like Bill O'Reilly grasp at anything evil-sounding to associate with gay marriage.

O’REILLY:
So you can see the debate over gay marriage is now a full fledge national battle. As talking points said last night the election of Barack Obama has emboldened secular progressives who feel it is their time. Gay marriage just the beginning. Other cultural war issues will also be in display very shortly. These include limiting gun possession, legalizing narcotics, unrestricted abortion and the revocation of the Patriot Act.
Sounds almost as fearful as Pat Robertson:
It [feminism] is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians.
Then again, O'Reilly doesn't seem quite as squirrelly.
