Demonizing Gets The Robertson Treatment: The Great Senile Spirit Rejuvenates Gay Exorcism!

The Great Senile Spirit Has Spoken. Pat Robertson has taken an ex-gay/born-again odyssey and crafted a story of demonic possession. Over two years ago, Pat Robertson's mental capacity was questioned when he posited that disaster-stricken Haiti had signed a pact with the devil. He has, of course, come out with similar pronouncements leading both sides of the culture to dismiss him as senile.* So it should come as no surprise that his latest revelation - that homosexuality is really the result of demonic possession - has been met with a certain amount of amusement.

But some people aren't laughing.

Of course, Robertson has his die-hard fans, that group of elderly living in nursing homes, touching their screens when Pat is on, hoping he'll cure them of their hemorrhoids. His demonizing of gays to this group is almost meaningless since most of them don't have the strength or wherewithal to wield a baseball bat or pull a trigger. But it's the rest of his outer circle, the ones who enable bullying in schools, the ones who need to believe in a "homosexual agenda", the ones who actively follow the likes of Bryan Fischer and Lou Engle - they are the ones from whom we must suffer silence in fear of lives.

Demonizing in America has become a sport at which certain people have become incredibly adept and truly bold: the ones who eschew the machinations of Fred Phelps support and embellish the homophobia of Rick Santorum and Rick Perry. Tony Perkins remonstrates against dreaded "homosexual activists" almost weekly on MSNBC's Hardball with Chris Matthews. The American Family Association calls for boycotts against any retailers supporting gay rights (the latest, being Starbucks and JC Penney) because homosexuals are "destroying" the American family.**

"Spirit of Death"

Perhaps the most harmful thing about Robertson's latest ruminations is that he uses a black "ex-gay" man to tell his story about how his "addiction" brought out misery for his family and how he was saved by "faith." The man's testimony seems harmless enough until he comes to equate his faith to the "Spirit of Life" and homosexuality to the "Spirit of Death." Yes, he actually uses those words, and in doing so becomes a fully adept demonizer on Robertson's program, enabling black ministers ala Eddie Long to preach against the "demon-possessed" gay lifestyle. The man also depicts his own life as simply one filled with deceit and online sexual hook-ups, a mass of guilt and devoid of any real affection to any of the men he experienced. In other words, homosexuality is just one mass of demonic lust.***

Enabler Of The Worst Sort

Of course, besides demonizing (literally) an entire community in one fell swoop, Robertson also became an exorcist-enabler. Horror stories abound concerning gay youth and even older men and lesbians being put through hell - often against their will - in order to "cast out" the demons driving their sexual urges and their orientation (see one below). He has became a staunch supporter of those people who for the sake of their own perversions of righteousness, torture to the point of irreparable psychological damage. He has become an enabler of Hell Houses and their "demonic" portrayal of same-sex weddings. He has even become an enabler of bullying, since most gay teens are taunted with "you're going to hell."

It is unfortunate that throughout his barely lucid ramblings, Robertson keeps harping at what is "wrong" without stopping to think that what he is doing might be wrong.

Such is the bliss of senility.

* He has reversed his previous stance on marijuana, calling for its legalization, and setting off a chorus of WTF!?s across the nation's Bible Belt and beyond.
** As if it needed any impetus.

Ann Coultergeist: Gays Love Me! I'm Their Judy Garland! I'm Delusional!

Urban Dictionary:Definition: Coultergeist
A word used to describe the haunting feeling one gets when watching Fox News.Example A: "Man, there was nothing else on last night, so I decided to watch some Fox News. After a few minutes of Sean Hannity it felt like there was a Coultergeist in my house."

WARNING: SOME FANS MAY WANT TO DE-FAN ME FOR THIS ONE. THIS IS MY SNARKIEST SHOT AT ANN COULTER. LIKE SLAPPING A MOSQUITO, I JUST HAD TO DO IT.

It's time to put Ann Coultergeist to rest, or in an asylum. There is a difference between egotism and ODN (Outright Delusional Narcissism). ODN is a terrible disease of the brain - borne of years of self-adulation - which turns the slightest attention or publicity into an all-encompassing feeling of idolatry by everyone.

Ann Coultergeist has terminal ODN. We should pray for her, but her ODN is too far advanced. Even God cannot work such a miracle, so save the prayers.

We all knew the end was coming: she insisted that her audience was growing even while her book sales had started to tank. But now we have seen the beginning of the end: this single (very single) strand of spaghetti insists that she has a huge gay following.
One comment:
Forget the fact that GoProud has adopted her as their mascot.  GoProud is a farce: a farce hiring another farce to degrade them for publicity. How many gays love GoProud?
Not many. From Queerty:
Considering that GOProud regularly supports anti-gay candidates, doesn’t support gay marriage—even though GOProud Chairman Christopher R. Barron is married (the hypocrite)—and has been mocked by Coulter in the past—they totally deserve each other. Barron says that Coulter’s appearance at their 2010 Homocon event “helped put [GOProud] on the map.”
Yes, just like the nuclear meltdown helped put Chernobyl on the map.

The ODN that now drives Ms. Coultergeist can be viewed in the video below. But it's too intense. So let's go point by point, quote by quote, shall we?
Log Cabin Republicans is not a truly conservative group. Why? Because conservative groups want gays back in the closet? GoProud has done everything it can to do just that: by trying to negate everything the gay rights movement has ever accomplished, it has all but told Republicans that they can vote just as well from the closet as from the room.

Have you ever been to a LGBT group before?
Yes, I call them Ann Coulter book signings. This is possibly the height of hypocritical hyperbole. And the most delusional of her statements. If one gay person were at her signings, it would be to size her up for portrayal at Halloween.  Even if GoProud were to attend all of her signings, it would be a small event and Coulter would fire her publicist.

Speaking at Homocon:” I’m in the market for a new hair stylist” Coulter dilusionally thinks that  gays love to be insulted. However, like African-Americans, gays can insult their own, but no one else can (or should).

Right Wing Judy Garland  A weird correlation, don't you think? Garland was considered an icon for several things, none of which fit Coultergeist: Garland had talent that was exploited and abused. The only abuse occuring with Coultergeist is her abuse of other people. Coulter has no real talent. She can marginally be called a professional - a professional bitch.
I didn’t expect that all right wing girls would all be good looking. Coultergeist has not taken a look the a mirror for a very long time. Nor has she taken a look at her very unflattering (but fairly accurate), caricatures. Joe Jervis (Joe.My.God) calls her "Skeletor." She looks so much like a palomino that friends warn her not to go to England: Princess Anne would try to ride her.* Yes, I admit this is a vicious retort, but we're talking about the pundit who cannot talk about Joe Biden without inserting a comment about his hair plugs.

Didn’t expect that SO many gays would be HUGE fans of mine. Like many of her statements, Coulter fails to come up with substantive support. She thinks that all of her pronouncements are automatically taken as fact. Again, most delusional.

If you’re born gay, why would you be a liberal? If you were born straight, why would you be conservative?

One of the highest incomes demographically. This is a myth that has been dispelled, but not enough. The idea that gay males make MORE than straight males is certainly untrue. Coultergeist's GoProud friends might make more money than most (and most gays) but Coulter is still dillusional if she thinks that all/most gays are like the GoProud crowd. These are gays whose primary purpose in life is to protect their own money and get some publicity while they're doing it so that they can make more money.
They are victims of crimes.  But the kind of crimes perpetrated by most conservatives: discrimination, bashing, and hate speech.

Muslims don’t think too highly of them. They don' think too highly of you either, Ms. Coultergeist,  but that doesn't mean that you should consider "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."

Entire Republican platform is fighting the same causes as any sane gay person. So gays are against universal healthcare coverage? They're against government subsidizing of non-profits (like the San Francisco AIDS Emergency Fund - through the Ryan White Act)?

All gays who are born gay are overwhelmingly conservative. Huh? Parts of today's conservative movement are not genetic or systemic: like the South Pacific song goes, "You have to be taught ton hate."

Angry gays causing trouble weren’t born gay. They were just angry at their fathers. When pundits play psychologist, it's time to click off the video.

Gay marriage: I talked them out of it when I was at that meeting. So much so that GoProud Chairman Christopher R. Barron is considering an annulment? I don't think so.

I tell them “we like you”  Severe ODN always negates the disingenuous.

* Another reason the Brits dislike her so much: "[Diana is] an ordinary and pathetic and confessional — I've never had bulimia! I've never had an affair! I've never had a divorce! So I don't think she's better than I am." Actually, Coulter's never had much of anything.

It's pricey, but it's worth it!!

Yes, they're selling this kind of stuff now. Somehow I don't think it will be displayed in the LGBT History Museum.

The Blatant Bigotry At CPAC: The Anger, The Arrogance And A Distinct Lack Of Reasoning

It's over a week since this event happened. It went viral almost immediately. Millions have already seen it. Why am I writing about it? Simply to state this:

THERE  ARE  MORE  WHERE  RYAN SORBA  CAME  FROM

A young Right-wingnut disguised as a budding conservative ala William F. Buckley (who would NOT have approved) aroused anger, shame, boos, disgust and yes, a small amount of applause. No one had expected his arrogant tirade. He was very proud of it. With the first sentence, he proved that Republicans still have not mastered the art of vetting. The event is best told in short points:
  • Alexander McCobin of Students for Liberty thanks CPAC for including GOProud as a sponsor...
  • McCobin is booed by several members of the audience...
  • Including (admittedly): Ryan Sorba, representing ...
  • California Young Americans For Freedom ...
  • Sorba is introduced next as the young man who appeared on Glenn Beck's show for the wrong reasons and ...
  • Was supposed to tell his story...
  • The first words out of his mouth...
  • "I'd like to condemn CPAC for accepting GOProud"...
  • It was met with a chorus of boos...
  • To which he said "I love it!"
Forget the booing. It's PC. Yes, for once, booing was politically correct. A bunch of CPAC arch-conservatives would have cheered, but people were recording his sage words, so how should they have reacted? They also heard the boos for McCobin and didn't want to go down that path by cheering Sorba.

And the saga doesn't end with Sorba's words at the podium.

He gave TWO interviews.

One ended in an ugly manner and should be quoted verbatim by gay reporter Alex Knepper of Race 4 2012.

He [Sorba] said at around this point that he needed to go, and put out his hand to say goodbye. I stared at him, refusing to shake his hand, and he said “Well, I don’t really want to shake your hand, you’re intrinsically evil.”

When we reached the area near the escalator downstairs, he turned on his camera. I put out my arms, striking a mocking pose, but realized he kept holding the camera at me.

“Wait, are you recording or taking a picture?” He was recording.

“Ah! OK…Well, I’d like to say, then, that the person behind the camera is a Hitler Youth waiting for a fuhrer to sweep him off his feet into a grand national project so he can sacrifice individuals like stock-fodder to his own biases.”

He turned off the camera and approached me. I told him he should get his girlfriend to give him a blowjob so that he could experience the joys of sodomy. He put two of his fingers an inch from my face and said that he’d want to fight me if a girl wasn’t around. “Ah, the use of force!” I said again.

The full exchange can be read HERE. This was not the first time Sorba's speech caused a stir. Recall that he cited protesting lesbians at Smith College. He was referring to a three-year-old incident at Smith where he was supposed to speak on the "Born Again Hoax". The theme for his speech was supposedly culled from his "forthcoming" book of the same title. Protesters stormed the hall in which he was speaking and he was ushered out ("for his own safety"). He's been living on that story ever since, it seems.

The irony here lies in the possibility that the "hoax" may be Sorba himself. The only available copy of his "book" is HERE. It is not listed in Amazon.com (which many times even lists out-of-print books). It was copywrighted in 2007. The first chapter and the last three chapters are labeled "tbc" presumably because they are not under copywright yet, but they are important chapters and are missing. But the biggest problems with this 95-page pamphlet/book: no bibliography and no index. Sorba thinks that his brain and his brain alone should be taken as the temple of truth. This man who prides himself on spewing pure Aristotilian rhetoric is himself unreasonable, expecting everyone to take him and his arrogance at face value simply because HE says he's using reason. He makes statements, then immediately storms off because he is cowardly. Bravado, it seems, is not his forte.

The second interview he gave that day is below. Again, his bravado does not extend to allowing himself to be photographed for some inexplicable reason. You are allowed to laugh at his statement "I don't hate anybody."

Remember this message: Ryan Sorba is not alone. He may seem like a one-man hate group masquerading as an intelligent neo-conservative, but he has supporters out there - somewhere.
