San Francisco Under Attack! Should the City Submit Meekly?

Admit it: wouldn't it be just a teensy bit of fun to rag the savage a bit?

Or Roar Like a Lion and Devour Hate Speech?

Tolerance vs. Intolerance in the Beautiful City By The Bay

For many years, San Francisco has been a haven for the oppressed, the outcasts, the miscreants of society, the ones whom Jesus hung around with. It had a well-deserved reputation for being America's Most Tolerant City. But a price came with that title: it's been expected to house the haters of the oppressed, outcasts and miscreants. People come from far and wide and out from under some of our own rocks to insult and mock San Francisco. The residents, God Bless them, walk by the men shouldering sandwich boards of hate with a slightly bemused air, but rarely confront them.

But now the "culture war" is forcing San Francisco to become a battleground.
I used to be the one who sat back, chuckled at it all and said: "The Religious Right says the country is in the midst of a culture war. They're right, too. But they're waging the war while we have the culture." Yesterday, however, showed that the war is getting brutally fierce and the enemies of San Francisco aren't going away.

Read the post below about the "Savage" attack on the problem of childhood autism. This newest screed on people with disabilities was broadcast from within the City at the radio station KNEW by "shock jock" Michael Savage. (His actual last name is Weiner - both pronunciations are correct: he's whining little wienerdog of a man who hates everyone). Savage is a former liberal who had a nervous breakdown when his doctoral thesis was rejected and became a rabidly radical right wingnut. Now he hates everyone but himself and trashes the City with every chance he gets. His best-known slogan is "Diversity = Perversity." He laughs at people who rail at him and call for his ejection from KNEW, because he knows that San Francisco will tarnish it's reputation as a tolerant City if it succeeds in throwing him into the San Francisco Bay.

Last night, I was ready to get the tar and feathers, but stores were closed by the time I read about his latest target. It gave me time to think: until we can somehow legally get him out or our hair, why not laugh AT HIM? T-shirts, posters, bumper stickers could be made so that everywhere in the City there is something to laugh at about Michael Savage: CafePress has dozens of t-shirts for Savage-lovers, how about having them design more sophisticated shirts with more subtle bon mots, like: F*CK THAT RABID PIECE OF SH*T MICHAEL SAVAGE! O.K., but I really mean it when we should laugh at Savage. Why not have someone do a parody of the Savage show? Or a totally anti-Savage show.

It's possible.

Just a thought.

Here's the infamous audio:
