The Annointing of the SUVs

(from Dan Savage, SLOG.com)

Pentecostal Bishop Charles H. Ellis III, who shared the sanctuary’s wide altar with three gleaming sport utility vehicles, closed his sermon by leading the choir and congregants in a boisterous rendition of the gospel singer Myrna Summers’s “We’re Gonna Make It” as hundreds of worshipers who work in the automotive industry—union assemblers, executives, car salesmen—gathered six deep around the altar to have their foreheads anointed with consecrated oil.

While Congress debated aid to the foundering Detroit automakers Sunday, many here whose future hinges on the decision turned to prayer.

Well, it's better than hundreds of autoworkers storming the CEOS' homes in the suburbs of Detroit. But if Hummers are wiped away from the roads because of people seeking cheaper, smaller, more maneuverable, less gas-guzzling or (heaven forbid) alternative fuel cars and the "concept men" run out of ,well, concepts... we'll see Detroit turn into a - what else? - museum of antique cars.

Bill O'Reilly Entertains Again: Going To War Against - Himself!

Merry Holidays!
Happy Christmas!
Merry Happy!

Oh, F**k! Just Have A Good One!

Taking potshots at Bill O'Reilly is, well, fun. There, I'll admit it! He's hypocritical, dogmatic and incredibly stupid. O.K., there I go again, having fun at someone else's expense. He, he! But I just can't help it. It's so damn...easy!

It's as natural as falling off a log!
He tries to act "fair and balanced" (like FOX News, uh huh!), but he comes across as unfair and slightly unbalanced. As we've stated many times, there are two types of Christofascists: the Elmer Gantrys and the Elmer Fudds. O'Reilly has not yet evolved from Fudd to Gantry. And it looks like he never will:

(From News Hounds):

What? Bill O'Reilly Doesn't Drink His Own Kool-Aid?
(Reported by Melanie - November 18, 2008)
Bill O'Reilly's annual frontal assault on the (ahem) legions of bomb-throwing liberals out there who are waging a "war on Christmas" is just around the corner. But looky here: an alert reader found this on the gas bag's own website: "Bill's holiday reading list."
Now check out Bill O'Reilly's

“Great American Holiday Quiz” up on the Parade Magazine website:
<span class=

That's the Great American HOLIDAY Quiz. I took the quiz and found out more about Hanukkah than Christmas. O'Reilly doesn't seem to get the fact that "Happy Holidays" was phrased so as not to offend Jews. It was, in fact, phrased to INCLUDE Jews, but Bill's covert anti-Semitism results in over-compensation.

His quiz also socks it to the ACLU. Apparently, knowing about nativity scenes in public places is as important as who was the first person to sing Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer (Gene Autry).

See what I mean? It's soooo easy to poke fun at this hypocrite!

Just a thought.

Warning: Pick Up Rove's New Book - But Have a Hernia Belt On!

If He's Going To Name "Bush Haters,"
It Might Be Very HEAVY Reading!

(From Think Progress)

Rove planning to ‘name names’ of Bush haters in his new book.
Karl Rove is reportedly one of the key architects overseeing the “Bush legacy project,” predicting that the President will be remembered as a “far-sighted leader.” In a new interview with Cox News, Rove rails against all the people in America who never “accepted the legitimacy of George W. Bush,” saying that he plans to call them out in his new book.

Simon & Schuster is publishing the book, and have been working on it for more than a year, but the title is not yet listed with Amazon and if you Google "Rove new book" you really don't get anything. Maybe "The Architect" is more difficult to work with than expected (or a worse writer than anticipated). Maybe his list of "Bush-haters" is too unwieldy.

How many pages would it take (in almost infinitesimal type) to list 300 million names?

We'll have to wait and see if Machiavelli's Guide To Presidential Advising ever comes out.

Bush's Appointees: Appointed By God!

I came across this clip of Bill Maher expounding on the large number of Regent University Law School graduates holding important posts in the B**h administration. It's still timely and very pertinent: Obama appointees have knowledge and experience on their side - besides God.

Bush's Cronies, Crimes, Choices vs. Barack Obama's Appointments

With every new appointment, Barack Obama seems to be scoring - big time. Why? Because very few of the appointees directly dealt with Obama before the election, because most of the appointees have direct experience and correlations to the offices selected, because of the diversity of Obama's choices and, well, because of the glaring lack of Skull and Bones people. Yes, there are some Chicago choices, but nothing on par with the choices B**h made before he became President in 2001. The Right Wingnuts are scrutinizing every appointment - and trying to detract from every one. They'll even denigrate the latest:

CBS/AP) President-elect Barack Obama has chosen retired Gen. Eric K. Shinseki to be the next Veterans Affairs secretary, turning to a former Army chief of staff once vilified by the Bush administration for questioning its Iraq war strategy. Mr. Obama will announce the selection of Shinseki, the first Army four-star general of Japanese-American ancestry, at a news conference Sunday in Chicago. He will be the first Asian-American to hold the post of Veterans Affairs secretary, adding to the growing diversity of Mr. Obama's cabinet.
Shinseki was also the bane of Donald Runsfeld and, when criticizing the small amount of troops Rumsfeld said was be needed after the war to stabilize the Iraqi nation, was fired. Shineki was proved right, of course, becoming the absolute pariah of Republicans everywhere.
"I think that General Shinseki is exactly the right person who is going to be able to make sure that we honor our troops when they come home," Mr. Obama said in an interview with NBC's "Meet the Press" to be broadcast Sunday.
For a list of supposed "friends of Obama" go to Barackbook.com. Some of it may be true: Joe Biden is (hopefully) a friend of Obama's and Chicago's Mayor Richard Daley would certainly be a friend (if Obama wanted to get anything accomplished in Chicago). Of course, the "close" relationship between Obama and Bill Ayres is chronicled in detail, but only seems to accentuate that they served on similar boards and Ayres' present interests don't qualify as "terrorism". For a good chronicle of B**h's crony appointments as well as his lies and deceptions, go to Sourcewatch, a wikipedia-like site that helps you get to the sources of today's journalism.

It will be interesting to draw a comparison list, appointee to appointee 2001 compared to 2008. Wanna bet that B**h's appointee's have several things in common: B**h and ineptitude.

Shooting Bears At Yellowstone With A 45

In another of the Bush administration’s awesome midnight rule changes, the White House announced Friday that visitors to national parks may now carry concealed loaded weapons. For what purpose, we can’t be sure. But I suppose the threat of moose in Yellowstone and anemones in Acadia justifies the choice (not really).

What has to be the most asinine lift of regulations is true: you can carry concealed weapons into parks like Yosemite and Yellowstone and shoot just about everything but a park ranger.

WTF?!? Why does ANYONE need a concealed weapon in a national park? Does B**h have some arcane knowledge of terrorists lurking behind giant sequoias or throwing bombs in "Old Faithful"? Is THIS what the NRA's been fighting for for years? How idiotic can you get? Or is that: how patronizing can you get? Does an outgoing president need so desperately to deregulate everything, he'll shoot protected deer and grizzly bears to do it?

On behalf of wildlife everywhere: get this guy out before he endangers sparrows and seagulls!

...And a warning: the next time you go to Yosemite and meet a "Sam", make sure his first name is "Yosemite" and not "Son of".

Obama's Got A Secret!

What? An Administration Without Secrets?
That's Un-American!

Uh, actually Obama doesn't seem to have any secrets, at least until January 20th.

(The Washington Independent)
Obama Transition to Release Details of Meetings with Outside Groups

The Associated Press is reporting that the Obama-Biden transition team plans to release details and documents relating to all of the transition’s meetings with outside groups. Citing an internal memo, AP says the policy is effective immediately and will cover the entire time between the Nov. 4 election and the Jan. 20 inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama.

The policy does not extend to the administration, though Obama could institute the same requirements once he is president.

...Such a policy after Inauguration Day would represent an unprecedented level of transparency, and would be a welcome change from the days when lawsuits and leaks were the only way to get information from the executive branch about, for example, what interest groups were allowed to formulate the nation’s energy policy.

One of the most "openly secretive" administrations in recent history may come to an (ignominious) end. And with it, the end of some very dubious careers.
