Sarah Palin's relationship with lobbyists died today. In her effort to look like a "Maverick for Change" she practically called lobbyists the scum of the earth. Good thing her campaign manager, Rick Davis, didn't hear her - or pretended not to hear. When questioned by Sean Hannity (speaking of scum) about “relationships between political donations from Fannie and Freddie Mac and the bankruptcy.” Palin switched gears and laid some of the blame on the Jack Abramoffs of Washington:PALIN: I think that’s significant, but even more significant is the role that the lobbyists play in an issue like this also. And in that cronyism — it’s symptomatic of the greater problem that we see right now in Washington and that is just that acceptance of the status quo.
Davis headed the Homeownership Alliance, a lobbying association that included Fannie, Freddie, nonprofit groups, real estate agents, homebuilders and consumer advocates. … [The group] worked to oppose congressional efforts to tighten controls on Fannie and Freddie.Will she be able to talk to Rick Davis about her views? Sure. Like most lobbyists (or former lobbyists), Davis is a master at spin control. How he's going to do it, I'm not sure, but if he ever wants to see Washington on either side of the fence, he'll make her remark look profound, but inoffensive.
Actually, Sarah is morphing into George W. BushJUNEAU, Alaska - Alaska's investigation into whether Gov. Sarah Palin abused her power, a potentially damaging distraction for John McCain's presidential campaign, ran into intensified resistance Tuesday when the attorney general said state employees would refuse to honor subpoenas in the case.
In a letter to state Sen. Hollis French, the Democrat overseeing the investigation, Republican Attorney General Talis Colberg asked that the subpoenas be withdrawn. He also said the employees would refuse to appear unless either the full state Senate or the entire Legislature votes to compel their testimony.
One guess as to who appointed Colberg to the position of Attorney General. Somehow, this scenario sounds vaguely familiar. Haven't we heard it before? Maybe within the last eight years? I smell "executive privilege" brewing.
By now, only those people living under rocks (or single-wides) are aware that Sarah Palin's pregnancy with newborn Trig Palin was anything but normal: Palin's water broke while she was in Texas, yet she still managed to deliver a 30-minute "speech" to a particular group, then flew for approximately 9 hours to Alaska without telling the flight crew that she was pregnant and in the first stages of labor! Then instead of going immediately to a hospital, drove 45 miles to a hospital near Wasilla. The following is an investigative piece by Barbara Bellows-TerraNova:I find the account of her pregnancy and labor provided by Palin to be perplexing, to put it mildly, and I have every right to ask questions about it, especially since we have discovered that this woman lies more compulsively and less intelligently than the Clintons. If a story does not makes sense or raises serious questions about the sincerity of a candidate's embrace of a core political message, it is not rumor-mongering to ask about it. It is journalism. And in the absence of any information from the Palin campaign, I have aired every possible view trying to explain it. What else am I supposed to do? Pretend these questions don't exist? Pretend her story makes sense to me? I owe my readers my honest opinion. That's not rumor-mongering, it's fulfilling my core commitment to my readers.
Reported to be a "forum on energy with Texas Gov. Rick Perry and executives from four other states", it took a little digging to find that this forum was a closed-door affair hosting a select group of nine Republican governors and such notable corporate energy VIPS (and polluters) as Greg Boyce, chairman and CEO of the Peabody Energy Corp.; John Hofmeister, president of Shell Oil; Robert A. Malone, chairman and president, BP America; Anthony Orlando, president and CEO, Covanta Energy Corp.; and John Somerhalder II, chairman and CEO, AGL Resources.
Perry is also the father of Dick Cheney's son-in-law, the lawyer Phillip Perry, who has bounced back and forth for the last several years between lobbying for Lockheed Martin and working for the White House. His wife, Elizabeth Cheney, though a mother of five herself, is a hawk for attacking Iran and has worked in the Bush Cheney State Department.
So, while the pregnancy story does bring up questions about Sarah Palin's character and priorities, I still think the far more relevant information for voters is WHAT WAS GOING ON BEHIND CLOSED DOORS IN TEXAS THAT DAY?

I wish Joe Biden would see this little list. The focus on the Vice Presidential Debate will, of course, be foreign policy, but Sarah Palin has been rather hypocritical in domestic policy. She may not be the "mother earth" figure and humanitarian she pretends to be. Her speech yesterday focused on funding programs for special needs children (like her own), so I would love for Biden to ask why she cut funding for:

And she seems to be doing it well. She loves her kids, she loves her family. … When she was elected governor, she eliminated the position of chef at the mansion because she wanted to do the cooking for her own family. I mean, this is a very unique, special lady.
DR. DOBSON: Some women are able to maintain a busy career and a bustling family at the same time, and they do it beautifully. I admire them for their discipline and dedication. It has been my observation, however, that this dual responsibility is a formula for exhaustion and frustration for many others. It can be a never-ending struggle for survival. …On weekends, there’s housecleaning to do, clothes to be ironed and pants to be mended. … A little push in any direction and she could go over the edge.
