Another Pray Away the Gay Scheme: This Time Guess Where (Hint: I'ts somewhere In A Big Cold State!)

An Update on the Epidemic...
of Crazy Pastors

Sorry these photos are so blurred, but the one on the left really does read "Camp New Grace "Pray the Gay Away"

Thanks to Rod Lightning for the photo and for this bit of advice on how "Pray the Gay Away.":

Step 1: Contact a ministry that specializes in curing homosexuality
Step 2: Pray really hard
Step 3: Follow what the Pastor/Priest/Rabbi says to the letter of the law
Step 4: Shoot yourself in the head

...or you can just be gay and enjoy the ride!

This just in from AP (Rachel D'Oro)

“You’ll be encouraged by the power of God’s love and His desire to transform the lives of those impacted by homosexuality,” according to the insert in the bulletin of the Wasilla Bible Church, where Palin has worshipped for about six years.

Focus on the Family, a national Christian fundamentalist organization, is conducting the “Love Won Out” Conference in Anchorage, about 30 miles from Wasilla.

Palin, campaigning with McCain in the Midwest on Friday, has not publicly expressed a view on the so-called “pray away the gay” movement. Larry Kroon, senior pastor at Palin’s church, was not available to discuss the matter Friday, said a church worker who declined to give her name.

Hmmm. First the McCain campaign refuses to let Palin be interviewed by the mainstream media, now they've alerted her pastor and his staff not to speak. The question here is: WHO? Could it have been the Grand High Exalted Mystic Ruler of Colorado Springs, James Dobson?

The choice of Sarah Palin keeps looking weirder and weirder. Her choice appeals to: the radical Religious Right (Christofascists), the NRA, Fox News, pregnant moms who will vote for the first time and have almost zero education and anybody who lives in a single-wide. What about the media and the rest of the country?

As one of Palin's campaign staff told two reporters, "Who Cares?" Palin looks more and more like a right-wing, watered-down and less savy version of Hillary Clinton. And make no mistake about it, people will be making the comparisons.

Just a thought.

It's an EPIDEMIC!! Palin Has a Crazy Pastor Too!!!

Maybe Not in the Mold of Wright, Hagee or Parsley, But Hey, It's a Start!

Thank you, Andrew Sullivan! I saw your piece on Rev. Larry Kroon of Wasilla Bible Church and couldn't resist it:

[In his July 20, Sermon] ...Kroon placed Zephaniah in a modern context, warning that the sinful habits of Americans would invite the wrath of God. “And if Zephaniah were here today,” Kroon bellowed, “he’d be saying, ‘Listen, [God] is gonna deal with all the inhabitants of the earth. He is gonna strike out His hand against, yes, Wasilla; and Alaska; and the United States of America. There’s no exceptions here — there’s none. It’s all.’”

Now this statement doesn't exactly make him a CRAZY pastor, or one that's saying "God Damn America!" but it does sound a bit Christofascist. From the Wasilla Bible Church Statement of Faith:
We believe that based upon Christ's death for the salvation of lost and sinful people, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential. We believe that all people are lost and without God in their natural state; but by the grace of God those who exercise genuine faith in the Lord Jesus Christ are saved - justified, baptized into his death and born again, from above, by the Holy Spirit.

Jn 1:12,13; 3:1-21; Rom 3:23,24; Eph 2:8,9; 1 Pet 1:23

The Statement of Faith declares the Wasilla church to be absolutely inerrantist. In other words, the Bible is right in EVERYTHING it says, including miracles and doctrine (and the sun revolving around the earth, at least according to Joshua) The website smacks a bit of misogyny: it has a workout class for women but not for men (they don't need it - they're men!). It's not (gasp!) a megachurch (no fog machines or skateboard parks). It doesn't have a "campus", but I think it has a parking lot. All that will change, however, if Sarah Palin becomes Vice President. People will make pilgrimages to WBC and Rev. Kroon will be broadcasting hellfire and brimstone to millions. Here's his take on "sin":
Sin is saying, ‘I’m not going to listen to the voice of God.’ And there’s nothin’ more personal than sayin’ ‘I don’t want to hear You.’ Sin is saying ‘I want to do it my way;’ and there’s nothin’ more personal than saying ‘I don’t trust Your way.’
Hmmm. Then what about Original Sin? Does the fetus tell God, "Hey, I want to do it MY way, and I'm not coming out until I want to!" Yes, Kroon's sermon (and possibly, doctrine) was full of holes, but so what? He's speaking for God and you never ever question God.

The sparse website and this one sermon gives us very little to go on, but I'll venture a guess that Rev. Kroon is thoroughly Christofascist.

Just a thought.

Ann Coulter: Fastest Forked Tongue in the World!*...Who Ran (or Galloped) to the Defense of "Our Brave Sarah."

Surprise! Ann Coulter(geist) REALLY likes Sarah Palin! And (therefore) REALLY Hates Obama...and Edwards... and Clinton... just about everybody else except for maybe The National Inquirer and herself.

Ann Coulter even hates that part of America of which she has become: The Media.

While the difficult circumstances of Palin's pregnant daughter are being covered like a terrorist attack on the nation, with leering accounts of the 18-year-old father, the media remain resolutely uninterested in the parentage of Edwards' mistress's love child. Except, that is, the hardworking reporters at the National Enquirer, who say Edwards is the father.

As this goes to press, the latest media-invented scandal about Palin is that McCain didn't know her well before choosing her as his running mate. He knew her well enough, though admittedly, not as well as Obama knows William Ayers.

At this point, Ann Coulter reminds me of The Joker in Dark Knight, the latest Batman movie. Heath Ledger did a masterful job at portraying a man who knew he was insane, but instead of being tortured about it, was going to have fun with it. Ann Coulter knows she's insanely vitriolic about the majority of people around her, but she doesn't care: "It's not about the money, it's never been about the money, "said The Joker. Anne's made her pile through book sales and speaking engagements and she's content with it. In other words, Ann ENJOYS her vitriol. She wallows in it, in fact. Her own words are always music to her ears! Offensive? Who cares? I'm having FUN! My well-turned phrases are so good and popular that every one could be made into a movie instantly and put the Batman and Harry Potter movies to shame!

The problem for Coultergeist is that sometimes her viciousness works in reverse: if Coulter actually likes a person, then that person MUST have something TERRIBLY wrong with them. America roots for the underdog. And Ann has made way too many underdogs to be taken seriously. If she actually LIKES Sarah Palin, then Palin should stay in Walissa where she is both loved and despised (if any of comments of the Alaska Daily News' readers are to be believed).

Unfortunately (for Coulter), her rants are becoming tedious and boring. She even uses cliches and silly jabs again and again. Notice

John McCain's choice of Sarah Palin, governor of Alaska, as his running mate finally gave Republicans a reason to vote for him -- a reason, that is, other than
B. Hussein Obama.

So the media are taking it out on our brave Sarah and her 17-year-old daughter.

They tried to create a "Troopergate" for Palin, indignantly demanding to know why she wanted to get her ex-brother-in-law removed as a state trooper. Again, public corruption is not a good issue for someone like Obama, Chicago pol and noted friend of Syrian National/convicted felon Antoin Rezko.

"B. Hussein Obama" has been used many times by Coulter. "Our brave Sarah," makes Coulter's choice look like some waif in a silent movie (I had a cool idea, but then I quickly realized that Mary Pickford's dead). And notice how Coulter doesn't really say "Troopergate" isn't true, she just shifts to calling Democrats hypocrites.

As Palin begins to look more like a combination of Elmer Gantry and Elmer Fudd (who, like Palin, is the mascot of the NRA), Coulter steps up her rhetoric by saying "lies, lies, lies" or switches the subject to something she thinks is a counterpart in the Democrats. And no matter what the subject is, she'll try to tie it to John Edwards because Ann likes to kick people when they're down. Hell, this is a woman who goes to the park in the morning and pees on at least ten homeless people to jumpstart her day!

So, if Coulter likes her, be afwaid, be vewry, vewy afwaid...of Sarah Palin.

* As reported in The Guiness Book of World-Class Bitches

Here's a GREAT YouTube cartoon that depicts Ann Coulter's personality PERFECTLY. You'll see what I'm talking about!

Palin Didn't "Electrify" Her Party...

Not this......BUT THIS!

She ELECTROCUTED
It!

It seems that Sarah Palin intends to stay in Washington for quite a while, considering all of the excess baggage she's lugging with her: and they amount to lies and distortions BEFORE she could take office! "Electrified" Republicans are looking more like sheep being led to the slaughter, or - not to mix metaphors - more like criminals being led to the electric chair.

Unfortunately, this electrocution is comically entertaining to some people: if Palin is allowed to get away with all of the "shocks" she's given to the people of Alaska and the nation, there are way too many countries who will be laughing their asses off - and not all of them our enemies either! (Of course, England will be, more correctly, laughing it's arse off).

It is unfortunate as well that Palin seems to suffer from a particular malady called "Bush's disease" wherein she suffers delusions of "truthiness" in everything she says. She also thinks that people besides Republicans living in single-wides will discard critics as "jealous," "misogynistic" or "un-American."

Perhaps the one note that Sarah Palin inadvertantly struck in her speech (and in her career) is one of hypocrisy: e.g., she claims to be a compassionate "mom" while trying to annihilate the polar bear population. Also, she campaigned for Wasilla mayorship on fiscal responsibility and left the office - and Wasilla - $20 million in debt. She crowed about selling Alaska's gubernatorial jet only after she had her office in Wasilla redecorated three times.

So let's look at "electrfying" shocks she has given people up to date (there may be more, so just consider this a work in progress):

OMG! Queer Republicans May Be Just As Dumb As The Rest of Them!!

It's Not the Rain That's Keeping People Away!

He Can't Speak, He Can't Act, And PLEASE Don't Ask Him to Sing! So What The Hell Is He Talking To A Bunch of Gay Republicans For?

WARNING: The video in this post may cause the viewer to laugh themselves to death or at the very least, vomit repeatedly. Call your doctor (psychiatrist) immediately if you have symptoms of severe depression and bewilderment due to exposure with inordinate amounts of hypocrisy.

Possibly one of the world's greatest oxymorons is the term "Gay Republican." I've tried separating the two words, then putting them together again or putting them in reverse order, but they come out the same way: No Way! I've known that conservative gays exist (e.g. Andrew Sullivan, whom I respect and admire), but gay Republicans? No. That is why I draw a stare of disbelief when people refer to Log Cabin Republicans.

Yes, they exist. And, yes, they have a right to exist. Just as the President of The United States has a right to be profoundly dimwitted. And yes, there are some very dimwitted gay people out there. The evidence is there: people are willing to vote for John McCain who will try his best to strip gays of all the rights they've fought for, including the ones they've won. McCain hates gays. And no matter how many gay "friends" Palin says she has, she hates gays as well. Both of them will see to it that corporations, churches (especially) and various associations discriminate with impunity. To them, in fact, there is no such thing as "gay rights." Fag-bashing doesn't exist. Hate crimes (at least against gays) don't exist. Fred Phelps doesn't exist.

Obama's acceptance speech actually used the term "our gay brothers and sisters." If anyone within the Republican party ever used that kind of benevolent terminology, they would be denounced as a Republican.

This just in from Think Progress:

VIDEO: Top McCain Aide Tells Gay Republicans, ‘You Are An Important Part Of Our Party’

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) has long opposed gay rights, stating that he is in favor of the “traditional definition of marriage.” Today, however, McCain’s chief adviser Steve Schmidt addressed a luncheon for the Log Cabin Republicans, a gay advocacy group. ThinkProgress attended the luncheon and captured exclusive video of the speech.

Schmidt opened by stating he has a personal connection to LGBT issues because his sister is a lesbian:

[I want to pay] my respect and the campaign’s respect to your organization. On a personal level, my sister and her partner are an important part of my life and our children’s life. I admire your group and your organization, and I encourage you to keep fighting for what you believe in because the day is going to come. You are an important part of our party.

WoW! A person who admits his sister is a LESBIAN! A person who says that she and her partner are important part of his life! OMG! We MUST listen! He is disclosing PERSONAL information!!

What Schmidt DIDN'T disclose was that McCain has voted against every single law even hinting at gay rights.

We as the Republicans are the party of freedom and as the party we strive to reach that goal and we’ll keep fighting as a party to reach it in full. And I think over time it will be reached. And you are an important part of this party.

The "goal" Schmidt talked about seems further away with every vote for McCain, but the Log Cabin Republicans seemed to lap it up.

ThinkProgress also spoke to Jimmy LaSalvia, Director of Programs and Policy for the Log Cabin Republicans. He not only endorsed McCain, but Sarah Palin as well!

Well, I think that we have a lot in common with Gov. Palin. She is a reformer who hasn’t ever been afraid to take on the party’s leadership and stand up for what’s right. And that’s what we do every day.

So help me God! If I ever run into LaSalvia, I will personally take away his Gay Card! Of course, I'll replace it with a "I'm just like George Bush" card so that people will ask for proof of I.Q. when they see it.

Watch the video, if you dare. Then tell me if it isn't the first time he's spoken to a human audience.

Just a thought.

Mrs. Mooseburger, Epilogue: Just the Facts, Ma'am, Just the Facts

Just the Facts:
I.E., What the Republicans Hate to Think About

Sarah Palin rode into Minneapolis (in an American SUV, I suppose) and charged through the Republican National Convention with a whole train load of excess baggage ...and dubious "facts."

(Credit where credit is due: some pieces of this post are from Associated Press: JIM KUHNHENN September 3, 2008 11:48 PM EST. They will be noted with different color/text)

I read the speech: how enlightening! How Invigorating! How nauseatingly hyperbolic and riddled with errors!

We all knew that Sarah Palin was going to do a James Dobson: "Focus on Her Family." She talked about her hometown as if it were Hometown U.S.A. And that running it was a lot like being Vice President of the United States. And about all of the momentous decisions she's had to make while she's been governor of the largest state in the Union (albeit the smallest population)

"I might add that in small towns, we don't quite know what to make of a candidate who lavishes praise on working people when they are listening, and then talks about how bitterly they cling to their religion and guns when those people aren't listening.

We tend to prefer candidates who don't talk about us one way in Scranton and another way in San Francisco."

Of course, the small town Republicans she's talking about REALLY DO BITTERLY CLING TO THEIR RELIGION AND GUNS, in Scranton, anyway. And she shot a "liberal" dig at San Francisco. We ought to charge her for all the tourist revenue we lose from Scranton.

"But here's a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I'm not going to Washington to seek their good opinion - I'm going to Washington to serve the people of this country. Americans expect us to go to Washington for the right reasons, and not just to mingle with the right people."

Translation: Reporters and commentators aren't really people. This would be true if she singled out Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin, but the media is very sensitive about being portrayed as inhuman. Anderson Cooper looks very human to me (and to a lot of other admirers)

"Americans expect...with the right people."

Hmmm. But WASHINGTON expects you to. If you don't mingle with the right crowd of senators, congressmen and (dare we say it?) lobbyists, you might as well as stay in Alaska and shoot more moose.

"No one expects us to agree on everything."

Tell that to George W. Bush who thinks that everyone agrees with him, but they poll differently because of the devil.

"But we are expected to govern with integrity, good will, clear convictions, and ... a servant's heart."

"This was the spirit that brought me to the governor's office, when I took on the old politics as usual in Juneau ... when I stood up to the special interests, the lobbyists, big oil companies, and the good-ol' boys network."

"Integrity." "Good will." "Clear convictions." "Servant's heart." Bullshit. Stood up to "special interests" "lobbyists" "Good-ol' boys network." Right. When you're shooting moose with the good ol' boys, you're really standing up to them!

"I told the Congress "thanks, but no thanks," for that Bridge to Nowhere."

THE FACTS: As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million. In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation. While Palin notes she rejected plans to build a $398 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport, that opposition came only after the plan was ridiculed nationally as a "bridge to nowhere."

"And despite fierce opposition from oil company lobbyists, who kind of liked things the way they were, we broke their monopoly on power and resources."

That's because she wanted ALL the oil companies to come in on the deal!

"With Russia wanting to control a vital pipeline in the Caucasus, and to divide and intimidate our European allies by using energy as a weapon, we cannot leave ourselves at the mercy of foreign suppliers."

Oh, what a good girl! Good Girl! Just what George, I mean John, wanted her to say. She already sounds like she espouses "cowboy diplomacy."

But when the cloud of rhetoric has passed ... when the roar of the crowd fades away ... when the stadium lights go out, and those Styrofoam Greek columns are hauled back to some studio lot - what exactly is our opponent's plan?
I thought the Greek columns were rather cool and sedate myself. And things were staged better than what the Republicans could have come up with. Those columns were obviously reminiscent of Washington - specifically the Lincoln Memorial. Note to Palin: remember to read up on who Lincoln was.
"...it's easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform _ not even in the state senate."
Uh, I'd talk to Mr. Obama about that.

THE FACTS: Compared to McCain and his two decades in the Senate, Obama does have a more meager record. But he has worked with Republicans to pass legislation that expanded efforts to intercept illegal shipments of weapons of mass destruction and to help destroy conventional weapons stockpiles. The legislation became law last year. To demean that accomplishment would be to also demean the work of Republican Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana, a respected foreign policy voice in the Senate. In Illinois, he was the leader on two big, contentious measures in Illinois: studying racial profiling by police and requiring recordings of interrogations in potential death penalty cases. He also successfully co-sponsored major ethics reform legislation.

"The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes, raise payroll taxes, raise investment income taxes, raise the death tax, raise business taxes, and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars."

THE FACTS: The Tax Policy Center, a think tank run jointly by the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, concluded that Obama's plan would increase after-tax income for middle-income taxpayers by about 5 percent by 2012, or nearly $2,200 annually. McCain's plan, which cuts taxes across all income levels, would raise after tax-income for middle-income taxpayers by 3 percent, the center concluded.

John McCain carries Palin's errors and ill-used logic to promote her capabilities:

MCCAIN: "She's the commander of the Alaska National Guard. ... She has been in charge, and she has had national security as one of her primary responsibilities," he said on ABC.

THE FACTS: While governors are in charge of their state guard units, that authority ends whenever those units are called to actual military service.

And finally, Sarah Palin's big money quote:

In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change.

If John McCain has promoted change for the last twenty years, he's quite a bad promoter, Mrs. Mooseburger, I mean, Governor Palin.

Just a thought.

THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY NO GAYS IN THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!

But There Are, Blanche, There Are!

I just saw this piece in Think Progress:

Virginia official cancels order for Twin Cities guidebooks because of section on gay nightlife.

“A campaign official for the Virginia Lieutenant Governor [Bill Bolling] canceled an order for 150 guidebooks to entertainment in Minneapolis-St. Paul after discovering they included a 6-8 page section for gay and lesbian nightclubs,” the Blotter reports. An aide to Bolling wrote in an e-mail to the guidebook’s publisher that such a section would be a “BIG problem.” “We simply can’t hand them out,” the aide added.

Dear guidebook publisher: you should donate 150 copies of your book for a good cause: place them outside the convention center with a sign saying "If you're not homophobic, pick up this guide to Minneapolis. It's FREE!" Then see how many people DO pick it up. Have someone posted near the area (he could be truly evil and have a camera) to guard the books (someone might try to trash all of them).

Look up Bill Bolling and you'll find out that he's only covering his ass: he's got aspirations and is very, very careful about everything that passes through him. He's also president of an insurance agency he needs to protect.

Some days, it's rather difficult being a politician. You have to give up your moral values so many times!

Just a thought.
